 Learn how to make Japanese stab stitch journals with artist Kay Watanabe

Join Brisbane-based artist Kay Watanabe in learning how to make a simple creative journal from scratch using basic resources! 

In this workshop, participants will work with a range of paper and card to make a practical notebook - perfect for journalling, writing down ideas and simple drawing. Learn how to use traditional Japanese stab stitches for hand-stitching the spine, and decorate the covers by stamping designs, using pre-carved rubber stamps. Both journal-making and stamping techniques are useful in other art and craft activities such as card- and zine-making.

. No art experience required - just bring yourselves and be ready to settle in to a fun relaxed evening of making!  - all resources provided.


About Kay Watanabe

Kay Watanabe is a Brisbane-based visual artist with her main medium being printmaking.

Kay actively exhibits in shows and art fairs in Australia and internationally.
Her works have been selected for numerous shows and she has been awarded various awards and commendations. Most recently in 2017, she won the printmaking award at the annual COSSAG (Cathedral of St Stephen Art Group) show in Brisbane and her artist book was selected for the Manly Book Award 2017 in Sydney. She has shown her works in Affordable Art Fairs in Milan, Berlin and London this year. In Brisbane, she participated in GOMA Winter Design Market in early July, 2017.

Kay also teaches printmaking at various organisations, is passionate about promoting art, and has extensive experience in curating exhibitions and organizing art classes.
