 About Julie

Julie Hillier from Ministry of Handmade has been a maker for as long as she can remember. The daughter of a dressmaker, she jokes that she “grew up in a sewing room” and learnt to count by sorting the contents of the button tin on the sewing room floor. Julie has a background in design and as a “through and through” advocate of handmade, she has a passion for helping others experience the fun and joy that comes from creating things for themselves, by hand. This led her to start her business, Ministry of Handmade, where she teaches a range of textile-based workshops including sewing, soft furnishings, lampshades and upholstery. Her passion for handmade is not restricted to the sewing room however, as she also loves to restore furniture and renovate houses.
